INSPIRED: Sex Cream & Adult Toy Banners

THE 2010/2011 INSPIRED/EXPIRED AWARDS
Category: Most Overt Sign of Secret Society Conspiracy
We’ve always seen minyak lintah or pill ajaib ads around town — but these usually came in stencil or sticker form. Now they are colour-printed banners, typically hanging from road signs: advertising “ADULT TOY” or “MANN CREAM” or “UBAT KUAT LELAKI”.
Now, banking on male insecurity is a viable business strategy; and goodness knows Malaysian men seem particularly susceptible. But I think there’s something more to these colourful decorations.
Professional-looking, but obviously illegal signage: check. Mysterious cellphone numbers you’d be reluctant to try: check. Cryptic websites with banking info but little else: check.

It’s either some clever ARG (I doubt it; not obnoxious enough) or organised crime (or terrorists, or the Illuminati) sending signals to each other. There’s precedence for this, if you remember: ah longs were using “Tuition” sticker ads to peddle their services.
In any case, we, might never find out. For adding another layer of mystery to KL, we think “CREAM LELAKI” ads are INSPIRED. With enforcement the way it is, they are not going away anytime soon.
PS: if I disappear, they’ve got me.
